I was curious if the Nissin units would provide the same stopping power as the ZX7R or CBR900RR brake master cylinders. As it turns out, they do, after all, the ZX7 and 900RR units are made by Nissin, too.
All parts necessary for the brake master cyinder installation are included in the Cycleworks kit. Also, instead of installing a clumsy 10x1.25 bolt to hold the reservoir bracket, I insert a Helicoil for 8x1.25 bolts in the 10mm threads and a reasonable sized black hex head bolt (8x16 1.25 pitch) is used instead.
The Cycleworks brake master cylinder kit includes
- Black oxide hex screws for the handlebar pinch bolts and reservoir mount bolts
- Female blade type electrical connectors to work with the Nissin brake switch
- 8x1.25 helicoil insert installed
- Banjo bolt of proper pitch for the master cyl (either single or double)
About the Nissin brake master cylinder

Use the catalog & shopping cart to get the kit. Any solution to your braking needs can be provided.
A few points to consider if you purchase a master cylinder either from a junkyard or from another retailer:
- Always buy new brake crush washers
- If you run a single brake line from the master cylinder to the right caliper, you shouldn't have too many problems clearing the instrument cluster.
- To deal with the electrics, use the two female blade type connectors supplied that slide over your new Nissin master cylinder's switch leads. Just be sure to crimp them well.
More notes:
- The actual part number for the brake assembly is 400-27351
- The actual part number for the clutch assembly is 400-27353
- The clutch assy is not listed in the Cycleworks catalog due to low demand, if desired, write it in in the info box. The speacial mounting bracket is not supplied. You get to make that.
- The Nissin master cylinder is NOT for a 748/916/996, use the Brambo GP 19x20 master cylinder. It has a 19mm bore and a 20mm pivot.
A customer took advantage of my previous offer of Nissin brake and clutch master cylinders at my cost to the first taker. Read how it went.
