Your Information and Your Credit Card
California Cycleworks, Inc., does not and will not sell or give your information for others to profit from or conduct market research. Details of your transactions may be shared with affiliate companies for purposes of shipping product to you. The billing address provided will be confirmed with your credit card’s issuing bank (please provide the bank’s phone number as listed on the back of your credit card on the order form) to prevent fraud.
Purchasing and Credit Card Details
We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express credit cards. The charge will appear on your statement as California Cycleworks. Payment via PayPal is not accepted. Sales tax is added to all products delivered to California.
Credit Card Fraud
California Cycleworks considers your identity very important and we are continually researching and implementing the best methods and technologies to ensure your protection. You might notice the “hacker safe” logo — just one recent proactive step for your information’s safety. Security is our number one priority. All on-line transactions are sent through our secure server, configured to use up to 256-bit SSL technology. Once we receive your information through the internet, only trusted, authorized employees will process the payment to make sure your information is handled with the best security.
Our current efforts to transition from Windows to Linux operating system enables us to implement consistent company-wide computer security. As we transition away from Quickbooks to a more robust enterprise-level platform, we can utilize a single data source for sensitive data (credit card details) and automate procedures that require employee access. These steps enable better security, logging and reporting of accesses to data, and less opportunity for “leaks” to happen.
Additionally, any attempt of credit card abuse or fraud is taken very seriously and any fraud attempts will be reported to credit card companies and relevant authorities: the FBI, San Diego PD, and the law enforcement agency for the address provided with any order. In these cases, we may share information provided by orders or e-mails to authorities and our affiliate companies to assist with investigations. The originating IP address and a date/time stamp are logged with every order.
In our research, we learned that most credit card information theft occurs by workers who have routine access to transaction details. These crimes are being associated with the Internet but they are nothing new! Credit card merchants started protecting your information 20 years ago when we requested that you take the carbon sheets imprinted with your number with you. As thieves became more resourceful, so has the credit card industry — and we keep up with new technologies.
When You Are Charged
Your credit card is not automatically charged via the online process; it is done by hand just before the products ship. If your order is a “drop ship” item (i.e., sent directly from the supplier), your credit card is charged upon confirmation that your desired goods are in stock. An invoice and a statement are either included with the shipment or e-mailed to you from California Cycleworks. The merchant agreement governing on-line transactions only allow up to 7 days for a product to ship once the credit card is charged, meaning we won’t take your money before we know we can deliver what you want.
