Some help during hard financial times…
June 24th, 2009
We had a great discussion with one of our customers who happens to work for Geico and I thought it would be worth mentioning that in California, rates have changed and there is a chance Geico’s rates could be better than what you have now.
To see how low of a rate you qualify for, please call 800-342-9070 and mention promotional code 101626.
The origination of all this was a discussion about how too many riders and drivers are underinsured. There are many nuances of insurance that many people (and me, too) just don’t think about until it is too late. I was so impressed about how thorough Geico is as well as this employee’s knowledge, I thought I would share the opportunity for the fast, free quote.
Great questions to know the answers to with any insurance company are:
- How am I covered if someone backs into my bike and knocks it over … but doesn’t leave a note and there are no witnesses? (this is all too common)
- How am I covered if I am lane-splitting and a jerk opens their door into me?
- … or if I rear-end an SUV? or take out someone’s mirror? Who pays and what are the deductables?
- Any phone counselor will gladly transfer you to an underwriter or underwriter supervisor to help you understand various coverages and the protections they offer.
- What happens if there’s a fire at my house/apartment/condo and my bike is melted?
- How am I covered if I am in a room-mate situation and another resident’s dog gets into the garage and causes damage to my Ducati? (this actually happened to me; thankfully, the damage was minimal and there was no need for insurance to be involved)
Ducatis can have astonishingly high replacement costs for parts damaged in tip-overs, so if you are not certain how good your coverage is, you should call an insurance company to try and learn as much as possible. Further, ask about rate increases for better coverages. It is surprisingly affordable to increase liability coverages and/or to obtain an umbrella policy. If you are riding with a passenger and have an accident, you will be responsible for paying medical bills beyond your coverage. To help prevent the state from assessing a 40% garnishment on your wages, that umbrella policy might save your day.
